Pawan Kalyan’s OG and Nani’s The Paradise: Record Numbers, Golden Opportunities Missed

A year apart, two very different stars went through almost the same box office story. Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG (September 25, 2025) and Nani’s The Paradise (September 24, 2026) both arrived with sky-high hype, both posted the biggest numbers of their heroes’ careers, and both left their buyers short of break-even. The OG box office collection and The Paradise box office collection show how far hype can take a film, and where it stops.

One Glimpse Was Enough to Set Everything on Fire

For both films, the buzz was built by a single piece of promotional content. OG’s “Hungry Cheetah” glimpse, released on Pawan Kalyan’s birthday in 2023, turned Sujeeth’s gangster drama into the most awaited film of his career. The Paradise followed the same path. Its raw first glimpse, set to Anirudh Ravichander’s music, instantly put Nani and director Srikanth Odela’s second film after Dasara in a much bigger league.

What happened next is also similar. The songs and later promotional content got mixed responses, and both films faced long delays. OG was stuck because of Pawan Kalyan’s political commitments, and The Paradise missed its release date twice. Even so, that first glimpse kept the buzz alive till release day. That’s how powerful one well-cut glimpse can be.

Openings That Doubled Their Heroes’ Previous Best

The hype converted into a record business. Both films closed the biggest pre-release deals of their heroes’ careers, and both opened at almost double the previous best opening of each star.
OG opened to more than ₹140 Cr worldwide on Day 1. The Paradise opened to more than ₹75 Cr worldwide, Nani’s biggest start ever by a huge distance.

The Talk Turned, But the Box Office Did Not Crash

Here’s where the content let both films down. Neither film fully satisfied audiences. Comparatively, OG worked better with viewers than The Paradise, but both fell short of what the hype had promised.

Still, the hype acted like a safety net. Neither film saw an immediate crash. Both held strong over the first weekend, and the drop came only on weekdays, which is normal for films of this size. Nani even called the strong criticism of The Paradise “aggressive honesty” and said he was learning from it.

Career Records on One Side, Losses on the Other

OG became Pawan Kalyan’s first ₹200 Cr and first ₹250 Cr worldwide grosser and close to the ₹300 Cr mark. The Paradise has become Nani’s first ₹150 Cr worldwide grosser and his first film to cross ₹50 Cr gross in Nizam.

But records and results are not the same thing. Because both films were sold at very high prices, buyers ended with a recovery of around 80 to 90 percent in most areas. A few areas made profits. So neither film is a flop, and neither is a successful venture. Both landed in that uncomfortable middle zone where the numbers look big but the balance sheet does not.

The Golden Chance Both Films Let Slip Away

This is the real takeaway. Had OG delivered on the expectations its glimpse created, ₹500 Cr gross worldwide was within reach. The Paradise, with an opening like ₹76 Cr, could easily have crossed ₹300 Cr worldwide.

Hype got both films through the door with record openings. Only content could have taken them to the finish line as hits. OG and The Paradise will be remembered as career-best grossers that could have been much more.
